There’s a wild and beautiful feel to staying at Karanga Camp, which sits at an altitude of 3995m, high on Mt Kilimanjaro. There are no trees here and the surrounding alpine desert landscape is stunning. You can also see the mountain’s summit from here, and there’s plenty of room for everyone’s tent. Lots of other climbers pass through here.

Barafu Camp

When you stay at Barafu Camp, at an altitude of 4681m on Mt Kilimanjaro, you’re surrounded by a landscape where nothing grows and the views extend out across the mountain’s high and treeless valleys. ‘Barafu’ means ‘ice’ in Swahili and it’s always cold up here, as well as beautiful. Enjoy talking with the other climbers who’ve reached this milestone.

Mweka Camp

There’s always a real sense of excitement at Mweka Camp, which lies at an altitude of 3060m and along four different descent-only routes down off the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro. There’s more oxygen here, and everyone enjoys that the most difficult sections of the climb are now behind you. The views in the area are also beautiful.

1. What is the Lemosho Route?

The Lemosho Route is one of the most scenic and successful routes to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. It starts on the western side of the mountain and gradually joins the Machame Route, offering excellent acclimatization and breathtaking views.

2. How difficult is the 8-Day Lemosho Route?

The 8-day Lemosho Route is considered moderately challenging. The extra days allow for better acclimatization, making it suitable for trekkers with reasonable fitness levels and no technical climbing experience.

3. What is the success rate of the 8-Day Lemosho Route?

This route has one of the highest summit success rates, typically 85–90%, due to its gradual ascent and proper acclimatization schedule.

4. Do I need prior climbing experience?

No technical climbing experience is required. However, prior hiking or trekking experience and good physical fitness are highly recommended.

5. What is the best time to climb Kilimanjaro via Lemosho Route?

The best months are:

  • January to March (quieter, colder)
  • June to October (most popular, dry season)

April–May and November are rainy and less recommended.

6. What is the maximum altitude reached?

Uhuru Peak, the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, stands at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) above sea level.

7. How does acclimatization work on this route?

The 8-day itinerary includes gradual altitude gain, “climb high, sleep low” days, and sufficient rest, which significantly reduces the risk of altitude sickness.

8. What are the accommodation arrangements?

You will stay in high-quality mountain tents throughout the trek. A sleeping tent, dining tent, and toilet tent (on request) are provided.

9. What meals are provided during the climb?

All meals are freshly prepared by professional mountain cooks. The menu includes:

  • Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
  • Vegetarian options available on request
  • Hot drinks and snacks daily

10. Is altitude sickness common?

Altitude sickness can affect anyone, regardless of fitness. Our guides closely monitor climbers, and the itinerary is designed to minimize risks. Proper hydration and pacing are essential.

11. What safety measures are in place?

  • Certified and experienced mountain guides
  • Daily health checks (oxygen levels & pulse)
  • Emergency oxygen and first-aid kits
  • Evacuation procedures if required

12. What equipment do I need to bring?

You’ll need proper trekking gear, including:

  • Warm layered clothing
  • Waterproof jacket and pants
  • Hiking boots
  • Sleeping bag (rated for cold temperatures)

13. Are porters included in the climb?

Yes. The climb includes professional porters, guides, and cooks, all treated according to Kilimanjaro Porter Assistance Project (KPAP) guidelines.

14. How many people are in a group?

Group sizes typically range from 2 to 10 climbers, ensuring personalized support and a comfortable trekking pace.

15. What happens if I can’t reach the summit?

Your safety comes first. If you are unable to continue, guides will assist you in descending safely. Partial refunds depend on the tour’s terms and conditions.

16. Do I need a visa and vaccinations?

  • A Tanzania tourist visa is required
  • Yellow fever vaccination may be required depending on your travel history
  • Consult your doctor for recommended vaccinations and medications

17. Is travel insurance required?

Yes. Travel insurance that covers high-altitude trekking up to 6,000 meters and emergency evacuation is mandatory.

18. Can this trek be customized?

Yes. Private climbs, extra acclimatization days, and customized itineraries can be arranged upon request.

  • 60+ days before departure: Partial refund (deposit non-refundable)
  • 30–59 days before departure: 50% refund
  • Less than 30 days: No refund
  • No refunds for early descent or unused services

  • Summit success is not guaranteed
  • Emergency oxygen and first-aid kits are provided
  • Guides have full authority on safety decisions

6. Travel Insurance

Comprehensive travel insurance is mandatory for all climbers.

  • Insurance must cover trekking up to 6,000 meters
  • Emergency evacuation and medical expenses must be included

7. Visas & Travel Documents

Clients are responsible for obtaining valid travel documents.

  • Valid passport and Tanzania visa are required
  • Required vaccinations are the client’s responsibility

8. Park Fees & Government Charges

Kilimanjaro National Park fees are included unless stated otherwise.

  • Any increase in park or government fees may be charged to the client

9. Guides, Porters & Staff

All climbs include licensed mountain staff.

  • Ethical porter welfare standards are followed
  • Tipping is recommended at the end of the climb
